The Essential Guide to Firefighter Health & Fitness

Available on Amazon Kindle

The intent of this book is to inform the reader of the most current evidenced-based research in the realm of health and fitness as it pertains to the holistic well-being of firefighters.  I feel that my calling to write this book is to help facilitate our brothers’ and sisters’ access to this information in order to improve their current and future overall health and job performance; thus, maximizing each firefighter’s opportunity to retire and enjoy the fruits of their labor after years of public service. If this book helps just one person, then it was worth writing.

This book is broken up into 4 sections: general health and fitness principles for longevity and quality of life; cancer risks and reduction strategies; cardiovascular disease risks and reduction strategies; and the important role of sleep for overall vitality, along with the role it plays in cancer and cardiovascular risk reduction. Based off of this outline our order of operations are as follows:

1.      Extend life span

2.      Expand the quality of life

3.      Reduce injuries and disease states

Throughout this book we will cover topics such as cancer, heart disease, exercise, spine health, mobility, injuries, nutrition, bunker gear, decontamination practices, fertility, heat and cold therapy, supplements, and more. Each of these topics could be a book amongst themselves, but our goal is to provide general awareness and implement applicable information that will give firefighters the best bang for their buck.
