In fire Departments and fire academies across the country there are thousands of men and women training daily to become firefighters or to continue their skill development as a certified fire fighter.
All of this training is being performed while wearing front-line gear or an old hand me down set. Therefore, they are training in the most contaminated set of bunker gear available. As science shows the oldest and most used gear is the most contaminated. During the vast majority of the time firefighters spend training, the IDLH protection provided by certified bunker gear is not needed.
